A couple of years back, or so, I used the the word "fideistic" to explain much of the modern approach by Muslims to the Islamic faith. Boy, did I catch Hell for that from all the bright clippers! Though, I think none of them actually knew what it meant.

,fideism holds that reason is unnecessary and inappropriate for the exercise and justification of religious belief.
Being a very devout agnostic I believe that tis a fool's errand to try to intellectualize the existence or non-existence of gods/goddesses, or "the God".

And following on from fideism I would go a step farther and say that tis positively a hinderance to try to apply reason to any discussion regarding religion.
