German Floats

With great pleasure, I am going to explain the fifth picture. It shows one of the umpteen themes of the Shrove Monday procession in the city of Mainz, February 2005, when Angela Merkel (Germany's present Federal Chancellor) was opposition leader. In contrast to the then Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, she approved of Bush's Iraq war. This is what the majority of the German people call sycophancy or, more drastically, bum licking.

Although, as a North German Protestant, I don't get much out of Catholic carnival revelry, I appreciate the carnivalesque caricatures of politicians and their politics. Children and fools speak the truth, don't they?
