All the more outrageous because it's so obviously true.

Few of us want to be like Hitler. That is a good thing. However, it is better not to be like Hitler, regardless of what anybody else may say, than to merely be somebody that others are too afraid to say is like Hitler.
One way to keep people from walking off of a cliff is to allow people to put up signs that say, “WARNING: CLIFF”. One way to prevent a society from denigrating to the levels reached by Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia, is to make sure that people feel free to point out when we are acting in ways like Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia.
If we condemn people from saying these things, we could walk off that cliff, and not even know it.

His position as a MUSLIM member of Congrees has put him in a very serious situation. He had an opportunity to stand up and reflect a moderate tone for Muslims. If the environment deteriorates in the USA and we sustain serious terrorist attacks, Keith Ellisons comments will be a rallying point for those wanting to blame all Muslims. This is grossly irresponsible of him. I never call for anyone to resign - EVER! But he should make a statement about the damage he has potentially created ! This is very irresponsible of him. He is not worthy to be a US Rep,. This is the type of garbage that should be left to idiots on blogs and ignorant Leftists at places like Clipmarks. I pray people do not hold...

Ok let get this straight, Mr. Ellison words will serve as a rallying point for those predisposed to hate Muslims? Not unlike one Mr. Beck that asked him to prove to him that he was not a terrorist? So one should not point out things as one sees them out of fear of repercussions. Even though Mr. Ellision's point was that had already occurred?

"After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it and
it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he could
basically have authority to do whatever he wanted."
Maybe his choice was poor, God knows only Republicans have the right to use Nazi comparisons. Maybe he should have invoked the Great Fire of Londo...

If you could actually decipher a very clearly made point, you would be well served.

The situations have definite parallels. The Reichstag fire was blamed on communists to bolster a political position (advancement of a political party, in this case the Nazis). Despite the fact that almost all of the identified hijackers were Saudis, Iraq was blamed to bolster a political position (advancement of a political ideology, in that case Neoconservatism).

That is a very good point Jorjor and not without some conceivable merit. However, that is not my point. My point is the potential damage caused by an ISLAMIC member of the HR making such a comment. These points are fine on blogs where they belong. However, Ellison has damaged the idea of moderate Islam in the USA. If things go haywire and people are looking for someone to blame, Ellison has set himself and "moderate Islam" as a target and made a plausible case that he is indistinguishable from the anti-American Left and Militant Islam.
He also made the situation worse by not saying that he believed 9/11 to be masterminded by Islamists. He hedged and did not say he did not think the USA gove...
