Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez presented a document from the US Air Mobility Command which according to him showed Washington's future plans for the region.

The Venezuelan leftist leader claimed that the US wants to use Colombia as a power base, from which to dominate South America.

Well sure, having military bases in the region does boost its regional military presence, but a coup? I seriously doubt the U.S. wants to take over any Latin American country.

Chavez is a thorn in the eye of the US and Colombia is just a stone's throw away. I wouldn't put it passed the US to instigate regime change in Venezuela. I wouldn't put it passed them at all. Not only is Chavez a socialist, but he's sitting on top of a whole lot of beeeeautiful light sweet crude oil too. .
