Exactly. This is similar to the home mortgage crisis, yet another toxic result of branding government bad and business good.
Government of, by and for the people is better and safer than business of, by, and for the stockholder's profits. The problem isn't government, it's profiteers' control of government, which fits all-too-neatly into the cliches of small-govt-reduced-taxes that sell it to the middle class.

Of course all of this is based on the misleading and false dichotomy of BIG vs. small goverment. The question should be is this Good or Bad governance.
