balthazarus says: though i do not understand why woman would like to publish photos of them breastfeeding, i most certainly do not agree a dumb to the letter policy that facebook is following. The web should stay open for different ways of expression even if some does not fully fall under ones description of tastefulness I think that women publish the photos to "normalize" breastfeeding. That photo is beautiful and tender. You are absolutely correct about free expression and I would extend that beyond the web. Closed-minded people have been allowed to ride roughshod over the rest over creative expression for too long. The American Puritan Ethic lives on. We are one of the most prudish countries on earth, yet we flock to sex shops and soft porn images on tv and in print. We need to stop making everything a crime, everything an issue, everything is NOT something. Common sense needs injected into our society. I have no faith this will happen in my lifetime. Women's breasts = taboo. Seeing someone's head get blown off in a movie = entertainment. Wow, a photo of breast feeding is obscene? I wonder if these people consider breast feeding obscene? Some people probably think breast feeding is obscene, after all aren't a woman's breasts meant to be for the enjoyment of some men's viewing. They don't like to share the goodies. Selfish bastardos! I have a child who just finished breast feeding and another attached to mom right now, but I remember when I thought it wasn't something I wanted done in public. Once you have kids it all changes. But maybe, just maybe, we should be a bit discrete so that we don't freak out all the single men. Perhaps there should be a maximum 40% breast tissue exposure. If every mother show her breasts - who shall buy all the magazines! Hide your breasts, women! You do it for the wealth , the fee, the working men, the existence of America! The land of the free! (And if you find your husbands magazines - burn it! He may buy new ones! It's for the opcoming of the sick industrie!) ROTFL Just because breast feeding is not obscene does not mean that you don't need to be discreet about the activity. Urination is not obscene, but we ask people to to that privately whenever possible. How difficult is it to place a blanket over your child while it is feeding in public? Until it is socially acceptable for women can walk around topless, I don't think that is asking too much. It is not illegal for a woman to go topless where I live although the largest majority of women still cover up but, breast feeding in certain places like a park or a bus stop is frowned on. |
