ratilfar says: Eight months after the Agriprocessors raid, Postville is still grappling with what its leaders call "a humanitarian and economic disaster," compounded by the recession and a harsh winter. Life isn't much easier for "legal" workers. Inside a faded community hall serving as a relief center are Michael Barner, 47, and Patricia Williams, 41, who moved to Postville last month to work at Agriprocessors but had to leave their jobs soon after due to illness. They have arrived with an eviction notice and are seeking help to return to Dubuque. "We came here. We tried. I got sick. We just have to go back home," says Barner. These raids just did us all a whole hell of a lot of good, don't you think? Don't we feel better now? Come to Michigan and see this with Americans, not just illegals. Allowing illegal employment to continue is nothing more than condoning slavery. Most that defend these companies and people have no idea the horror that is their life. The illegals are invisible, cannot call the law, cannot get a lawyer and cannot contact OSHA or Workers Comp. And the companies that hire them KNOW THAT. Yet, we are supposed to turn a blind eye and let it continue? Out of misguided compassion? If these people went home to their families they would be taken care of. They are the ones fighting deportation, so they choose this. Once amnesty takes place, you will find out what will happen. MILLIONS of ille... I worked with migrant workers, in Michigan and while they are exploited by their employers the reason why the risk it all and fight deportation is because they don't have anything to return too. That is also part of the reality as well. The only way to stop this is to undue the imbalance between North and South, in other words get rid of the American Empire and allow the other nations of the hemisphere to grow without American goverment interference. |
