there is a mechanism (machine) that allows a paralyzed individual (who also cannot talk) to focus with the eyes, on letters of a keyboard in order to spell out what they want to say. With practice, it works. The letters, when focused on correctly, appear on a screen that others can read.

This was tried with my Uncle but he failed to utilize it to its full capability because he was too depressed about his condition to continue to use it. (He's now deceased).

I saw this man on tv using the device. It was incredible. The implications are mind blowing. Being able to manipulate a prosthetic limb could lead to this device allowing paralyzed people to once again use those muscles voluntarily. Amazing! Thanks for your info too, bookchick.
