Remember Religious Instruction as a waste of time. The volunteers were unable to control classes, the kids learnt nothing and many wanted to opt out when there weren't mobs of rewards. So much is put on teachers these days, such as ethics lessons. I taught ethics (non religious) from the first time I walked into a classroom and most teachers do the same.
