sillysam says: Let's see how the rest of the world feels about this one. Sam, I don't understand your opposing this. The rest of the world will benefit MORE than us already, even with the Buy American. $600 million goes to coupons for the converter boxes, ALL made in China. Billions go to bringing technology to the medical field-so again, 90+% to China and Japan. If we don't stipulate to buy American steel, then it will be Chinese-Europe doesn't produce much anymore as they sent their wealth to China too. If we don't wake up and realize that the only things globalization accomplished were record CEO pay, record tax revenue on higher profits, record Chinese growth and the complete, utter decimation of our middle class, we won't have one anymore. We took OUR ... If they want to do something that would really help American companies, why not do away with corporate taxes? That would make American made goods more competitive both here and abroad. Because Gem, protectionism hurts our economy. Plain and simple. It used to hurt us Sam when we had manufacturing that other countries bought. Wake up, a HUGE percentage of our GDP is FOREIGN production and not creating one American job. CLINTON is the one that orchestrated globalism for his buddies at WalMart, you do remember they both hail from Arkansas right? Sorry, my friend (I hope), but globalization is what CAUSED this mess. Subprime mortgages and greedy banks just kept the collapse from occurring 5 years ago. Temporary measures. The profits on Wall Street were a direct result of the silent poverty creeping into America. Now, it can no longer be contained. We are so screwed. The right blames "bad" people buying too much house, the left bla... Trade deficits are good for our prosperity. That is why the Left so adamantly hates trade deficits. This was tried during the great depression and it wreaked havoc on American exports. No one else will buy our goods if we buy only American. Our prosperity depends on trade deficits. John McCain is absolutely right. And so are you, sillysam. |
