Oortcloud says: A recent survey I read suggests that religion (in america) is not so dominant as the 90% and higher figures depict. The way the questions are asked can greatly influence the outcome of a survey and the number of non believers actually runs around 25% rather than the often stated 9% Lies, damn lies & statistics - it is a shame that we need to classify the population in terms of "constituencies" and then to give them a percentage ranking. However it is important we do so & do so as accurately as possible. The "Humanist" / "Atheist" / "Bright" (don't you just hate labels?) constituency is I am sure under estimated by politicians & governmental decision makers. It's not religion thats the problem its the red neck idiots who believe in stuff and that includes the really bizarre stuff like Quantum physics and the number of non believers actually runs around 25% rather than the often stated 9%Still pretty low though. Surprisingly so. I don't know the UK statistics, but I bet the percentage of non-believers is quite a bit higher. I'm optimistic that with the growing internet more people will be exposed to truth to combat indoctrinated mythology. |
