All my cats and dogs have come from shelters or were rescued from the streets before either dying (of disease, starvation or injury) or being picked up and taken to shelters. Although I am a stickler for getting all my pets spayed or neutered, the high cost of spaying and neutering pets is frustrating--especially for those of us on a very low, limited income. Some areas are fortunate enough to have spay-neuter clinics that help defray the costs. Where I live now there is no such clinic, unfortunately, and no plans to institute one.
