Como ela não podia comprar-lha, decidira pedir a quem fosse mais poderoso que a mãe, isto é, Jesus. A mãe tinha-a apanhado a pedir a Jesus que lhe oferecesse uma bicicleta no dia de anos. E contava-me que lhe tinha faltado a coragem para a demover do pedido. Depois notou que a conversa era quase sempre a mesma todas as noites e começou a ficar preocupada. E ontem, padre, ontem não houve bicicleta. Eu bem tentei poupar. Mas não houve. E à noite lá estava ela de bruços sobre a cama. Eu pensei que ela chorava. Abeirei-me, afaguei-lhe a cabeça e perguntei: Estás zangada com Jesus por Ele não te ter respondido, minha filha? E sabe que respondeu ela? Disse-me que não e que Ele lhe tinha respondido. Que lhe tinha dito que não. Que não podia dar-lhe a bicicleta. Fiquei perdida, padre. Já agradeci a Deus.
