ColoradoRight says: So when you hear talk of the glories of Woodstock—the so-called “defining event of a generation”—keep in mind those 109 GIs who served nobly yet are never lauded by the illustrious spokesmen for the “Sixties Generation.” Not everyone in the 60's was into sex, drugs and rock n roll. Those 109 definitely weren't and many midwesterners were not. I graduated from high school in 1962 and college in 1966, midwestern, and I know many if not most of my fellow graduates went to work and started to make a living for themselves and eventually their families. To me, being a midwestern, it seemed to be a West Coast or East Coast thing. Even Tom Brokaw's book "Boom!" admits that not everyone participated in the 60's. |
