einbar says: "Some possible explanations Man-made noises As sound moves through the atmosphere or ground, the high frequencies decrease in amplitude more rapidly than the low frequency ones, which subsequently travel greater distances. The low-frequency sounds can be focused by walls and structural geometry, and sound like ambiguous rumblings or hums. Industrial machinery such as compressors, pumps and fans can also produce similar types of sounds. Although this is one of the explanations that first come to mind, ordinary microphones have failed to detect the Hum and investigations have failed to convincingly trace the Hum to such sources. Studies in the UK have addressed this issue". infrasound made by geological events Infrasound from different possible sources, possibly geologic or plate tectonic in nature. Some possible explanations *"Pulsed microwaves * Electromagnetic waves caused by meteore * Ionospheric heating systems *Tinnitus the theory that the Hum is actually tinnitus fails to explain why the Hum can only be heard at certain geographical locations. Some people who claim to hear the Hum say that it is worse indoors. This would lean towards tinnitus, as tinnitus is generally worse in places with less exterior sound. There may exist individual differences as to the threshold of perception of acoustic or non-acoustic stimuli, or other normal individual variations that could contribute to the fact that some people in the population perceive the Hum and others do not. . Whether described and whether psychological, natural, or supernatural no one has yet been able to locate the sound's origin "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" OMG UR A NERD LOL LOL ?? Gosh...I lived in Taos, NM seven years (How refreshing it was just to see pictures of the beautiful snow capped mountains.) Do you see the face of the Conquistador (in snow on the mountain) in the bottom photo? Maybe the hum is like that. Most people will eventually come to see the face (shape) of the Conquistador near the mountain top; some don't. With the humm? I never heard it. The people who pushed the idea the most were sort of wacko. They linked it to the 'sinister,' idea of underground military labs -- linked it to the sightings of 'black helicopters.' Some wonder if it's connected to the rash of unexplained cattle mutilations. Some attribute it to Taos' location on an electro-ma... The Taos Hum............nobody's figured it out. Simple..... the hum is simply vibrators in neighboring Espanola, NM. DUH! |
