This theory explains why sometimes I realize that my mother is calling me, several minutes after her voice entered my ears, which happens often when I'm focused on a book (an interesting one that is). The information from the book keeps entering the queue, and the voice/sound tries to find a gap and squeeze in. Some sound information (prior to the one I've heard) never even reaches th... Good to know, that there are people working on such things (things like brain-machine interfaces that may help in this matter)...
