BitDrifter says: Saw that coming. I have to say that i find this very concerning. While i definitely think that what he said was horrible, i think the reaction by the station and the advertisers is hugely hypocritical. Why not remove all music radio stations that play rap songs with violent, hate-filled lyrics? The way this should affect Imus is by people choosing not to listen. Every once in a while on my way home from work i listen to a conservative radio show hosted by a guy name Mark Levin. In my opinion, this guy is a total jerk and loser. But i listen because i want to understand what people on the conservative side (though i'm not conservative) are saying. This guy says some incredibly hateful things about peo... I never listen to Imus either, or Howard Stern, or people like him. But I believe Imus crossed the line in the fact that he wasn't making a point. Lenny Bruce was very shocking, but his shock value always made a point. If you want to talk about rap music and that shock value, well, the point is that this is an artist's interpretation of the community and the world as they see it. It can be shocking in that way, and it can also make a point. The problem is when people miss the point. And where was the media when this woman's athletics team were making all these accomplishments? Take the whole black/white issue out of the equation and I'll say this right now: Quit calling women "ho's"... Couldn't agree more that calling women ho's is horrible and should not be done...ever! But i would like to think that people who practice this kind of speech wouldn't have the listener base like Imus does. The fact that people tune in bothers me more than the fact that one particular individual says stupid things. The fact that people tune in bothers me more than the fact that one particular individual says stupid things.I couldn't agree more Eric. |
