 UpStateMike says: hard to believe, but true! Not everyone in Iraq wants us out or hates us from getting involved. I think the media would have us believe that it's the Iraqi people themselves who are attacking our troops in an effort to get us out. I would be shocked to see any one of these pictures in the mainstream media. You rarely hear anything from the media about Iran's involvement in the war on terror, much less anything positive that might actually encourage Americans regarding our progress in the war. I think that everyone is confusing the issue of Iraq by thinking that the conflict there is about us, somehow. The right wants to portray us as welcome liberators, doing good, but fighting "terrorists." The left wants to characterize this as another Vietnam style conflict where people are opposing our imperialism. The truth is that the conflict in Iraq is a very old Sunni-Shi'i conflict, that we are now standing in the middle catching the crossfire. What we don't realize is that the average Iraqi is glad to see Saddam gone, and would love an American lifestyle, but they also don't like a foreign army patrolling the streets, and they don't like the pressure to let American corporations and p... I LIKE your remarks!! And thanks for the pictures. From what I hear from returning GIs, they are grateful to be home but proud of what they've accomplished and genuinely like the Iraqi people. These are truly shocking. How old are these pictures? Ah, they're not even available at the source. Five pictures, shocking indeed. Why doesn't the media want us to see these pictures? That headline was probably just made up to catch our attention. I remember seeing a few of these pictures--the second and the fourth one--right after the invasion. Also judging by the soldiers' uniforms(DCUs), those pictures are at least 18 months old. A lot has changed since then. Yes, for the better. :~) |
