No book, viewed through the myopic eye, of the present should ever be banned from the receptive minds of those for whom they were intended. We must not let what civilization has lost as a result of the burning of the Library of Alexandria to ever happen again. Fahrenheit 451 be damned. Any resurrection of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum, in any of its malevolent restrictive forms, must be eradicated before it can take root. Just imagine, these books were once banned in the United States: 1. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. 2. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. 3. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling. 4. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. 5. The Color Purple... The Diary of Anne Frank was banned in the U.A.E. I'm not sure if it still is today, but I didn't get to read it until I was about 17. |
