hipster says: This is really scary. The National ID, part of the bill just passed by Congress and on its way to the Senate for sure approval, is the Mark of the Beast that the Bible warns us about....or is it? They say it's "voluntary", but is it really? Here's the follow-up...it's all too scary. Good reason for me to become Amish or move to the remote wildnerness, somewhere in the world (that is if there is any remote wilderness left these days) There are similar plans for ID cards here in the UK, though yours sound even more sinister. Think this is going to be a worldwide thing eventually. Bible prophecy says "Beware the mark of the beast" for all who have taken this mark unto themselves is doomed to hell. Those who don't take it will persecuted, sought out, and punished (such as Federal sanctions against states and persons who do not agree to take mark. This is all forecast in the bible and is imminent to Daniel's 70th Week and the beginning of Armageddon. Scary shit huh? Hip, Revelation belongs to a class of chiefly Jewish (and later Christian) literature called "apocalyptic." Most people of the first-century Mediterranean world were familiar with the apocalyptic literary form. Even non-Jewish Christians with no prior contact with Judaism would have recognized the apocalyptic form because it was used among other peoples as well. For us, Revelation may seem strange because (with parts of Daniel) it is the only apocalyptic piece of literature we have read. However, were we to read the apocalyptic works of the time when Revelation was written and before, we would come to see the book in a totally different light. Apocalyptic writings usually had certain char... The book of Enoch would be another great example of a typical apocalyptic work: http://www.nazarene.net/enoch/enoch.html Hmm... debbyski, you just made me think of something. Is this the First Time that society has looked upon such things as the "mark of the beast"? I am not sure of all the examples, but I do know that the Tatooing of Jews during the Holocaust was believed by some to be the marking of the beast. Another is I believe slaves brought from Africa were branded. I am sure there are others, not just in the states, but around the world that could fit the description of being the "mark of the beast"?? RMowery, The mark of the beast has been the focal point of more rhetoric, ridicule, argumentation, and speculation than possibly any other single item in the Bible. It is important to understand to whom John was writing and its purpose and to understand the time in history that the Mark of the Beast took place. The focus of Revelation is on the Church in John's day which was being persecuted by Imperial Rome. John would not give the members of the seven churches a puzzle that they could not solve. Most Bible expositors give us two candidates from Imperial Rome, Nero and Titus Flavius Domitianus. Take your pick; it's a toss-up in my mind, with Domitian (AD-81-96), the Roman Emperor who w... for the devil sends the beast with roth because he knows that time is short, so lt him who have understanding reconing the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is 666.IRON MADiEN! im not a number im a human being. 666-66-666 ssn Thank you, deb!! That was a well written and articulate explanation of a biblical/christian concept I have never really understood. The whole revelations bit gets alot of bad press from the fundies, yes?? Please forgive my earlier jokes on this topic. Excellent! Revelation chapter 13 and 17 describe the mark of the beast "666" as the rotating EU presidency. this office consists of six months. (its the number of a man). before the US presidents, there were kings and queens who ruled for long periods. and to put the iceing on the cake, the EU (Reveived Roman Empire) in Jan of 2007, started the triplex meaning that issues not resolved during the first six month presidency can be carried over to the next two six month presidencies. 666 describes theese short terms in office. If the US were the beast it's number would be 444. Now that the one world order is comming into focus and appear to be setting up in the EU, it fullfilles bible prophecy. the mark... |
