cptenaud says: As ThinkProgress has repeatedly documented, McCain is either willfully lying or he is delusional about his record — and the meaning of “highest awards.” In fact, McCain has recently stood on the opposite side of all three of the groups he mentioned: – Disabled American Veterans (DAV): In a list of 36 “key votes,” shows McCain “Voted Against Us” 16 times. (Obama “Voted With Us” 17 times, and against only once.) – Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW): Endorsed Sen. Jim Webb’s (D-VA) GI Bill that McCain vigorously opposed; called McCain’s alternative GI Bill “very partisan” and said they “didn’t have much input” in its crafting. – American Legion: Endorsed Webb’s GI Bill and criticized McCain’s concern about how it would affect retention, saying the bill “would encourage young men and women to join the military.” Just last week, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave McCain a grade of D for his record of voting against veterans. (Obama got a B.) The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) have noted that in its “Key Votes,” McCain “Voted Against Us” 15 times and “Voted For Us” only 8. (Obama voted for VVA 12 times, and against only once.) Earlier this month, Rep. Chet Edwards (D-TX), a leading veterans advocate, excoriated McCain in an interview with ThinkProgress: “If you look at John McCain’s record on veterans issues, it’s a failed one.” It’s a sentiment IAVA executive director Paul Rieckhoff agrees with. Noting McCain’s dismal voting record on VA funding, Rieckhoff told ThinkProgress, “If h... War criminal--I keep saying it and irt's true--he was bombing civilians in an illegal and immoral war BEFORE he became a frickin' "hero" after being shot down by a Vietnamese Hero. Deal with it, Johnny! He didn't tho, and the repressed guilt and anger shows. He was always a liar, anyway. No, there are outstanding honours due to him from Vietnam for destroying the most enemy planes - winning by 3 more than any other honoured. He he. Seriously, one gaoler has stated that he was never tortured and had preferential treatment by Vietnamese standards. What if, after he was elected president - yes, it's unlikely - the Vietnamese produced records to prove this to be true! Now you'd have another president elected with a false record, with NO creditability. Keep up the good work bring this to our attention. It would be nice if these veterans groups could really make a big stink about this (if they already haven't). But a full page ad about this, in this short time before the elections, could have a very dramatic influence. I know if I, or just anyone, was to claim Vets supported me and they didn't -- all hell would break loose. All hell should break loose on him!!! "Hero" John McCain as Phony and Collaborator: What Really Happened When He Was a POW? http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/april2008/210408McCain.htm “War is one thing, collaborating with the enemy is another; it is a legitimate campaign issue that strikes at the heart of McCain’s character. . .or lack thereof. In occupied countries like Iraq, or France in World War II, collaboration to that extent spells an automatic death sentence.. . .The question is: What kind of collaborator was John McCain, the admitted war criminal who will hate the Vietnamese for the rest of his life? “Put it another way: how psychologically twisted is McCain? And what actually happened to him in his POW camp that... From Glory Boy to PW Songbird John McCain: War Hero or North Vietnam's Go-To Collaborator? http://www.counterpunch.org/valentine06132008.html the man who rescued McCain tried to ward off an angry mob, which stomped on McCain for a while until the local cops turned him over to the military. McCain was in pain, but suffering no mortal wounds. He was, however, in enough pain to break down and start collaborating with the Vietnamese after three days in a hospital receiving treatment from qualified doctors – something no other POW ever enjoyed. War is one thing, collaborating with the enemy is another; it is a legitimate campaign issue that strikes at the heart of McCain’s character…or lack t... McCain was not tortured, PoW guard claims http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/oct/14/uselections2008-johnmccain The Republican US presidential candidate John McCain was not tortured during his captivity in North Vietnam, the chief prison guard of the jail in which he was held has claimed. In an interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Nguyen Tien Tran acknowledged that conditions in the prison were "tough, though not inhuman". But, he added: "We never tortured McCain. On the contrary, we saved his life, curing him with extremely valuable medicines that at times were not available to our own wounded." McCain, who fell into enemy hands after his plane was shot down in 1967, has... This is a better place to get the real facts about McCain. http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/ |
