Some physicists believe ( granted, a minority) that the universe will only expand up to a critical point, at which time the overwhelming influence of combined gravity will slow the expansion and eventually over come it. At this point, it will begin collapsing on itself until it is a singularity again. As it collapses, time will run backwards.
This is not the overwhelming theory, nor one that I agree with, just wanted to point out that it exists.

One thing to consider about time, is that it's not absolute, but is relative to the observer. It's almost like the old tree falling in the forest quandry, philosophically. Oof. Did I break some kind of law or something, mentioning physics and philosophy in the same thread?

You forgot to mention 2nd law of thermodynamics. Time defines itself there!

Any system tends to maximize the entrophy by time!
The entropy of an isolated system not in equilibrium will tend to increase over time, approaching a maximum value at equilibrium.

BUT, you're forgetting the implications of the theory of special relativity, which proves time is relative! The faster one goes, the more time slows. It is theorized that if one were to actually ever travel at the speed of light, that time would stop and the traveler would become infinitely massive. Of course, speed and mass are asymptotical, so mass and speed would approach, but never quite reach the speed of light (As far as we know...one we though the sound barrier was unbreakable too!)

Also, at a singularity, all the laws of physics of which we are aware break down, including the Second Law of Thermodynamics. Time didn't even exist before the big bang, at least not in our universe. The...

Hudgal, re: suppose it's possible. Has there been any newS about the new accelerator super collider in Europe. A young genius I read about (name unknown) had said that he hoped to be able to prove the existence of other universes. His theory was that universes pop into existence like bubbles in beer and are as numerous. Maybe we should buy some Budwiser stock, it;s out of THIS world. Gives a new meaning to the expression It's Miller Time.
