It's also interesting how purveyors of addictive substances have quite successfully blurred the distinction between "Habit" and "Addiction," morphing their definitions into synonymy.

Habits are difficult to make, easy to break. Addictions are easy to make, almost impossible to break.

I couldn't help thinking about how long it takes to develop a so-called smoking "habit." In most cases, only one pack is more than sufficient to get "hooked."

What is popularly referred to as a smoking "habit" is more accurately an "addiction".
