garyedwardjohnston says: Pretty expensive eh? Freedom is priceless Freedom is pricelessUnlike bumper sticker slogans. @tpq62 - so since you're implying that freedom does have a price - what is your take on the value of it then? @tpq62 - so since you're implying that freedom does have a priceNo that doesn't follow. To equate freedom with military spending (the more miltary spending, the more "freedom"!?) is eccentric. My point was not about the value of freedom but about its nature. If you can only think in slogans, you are not free. If you live in fear, you are not free. If you live in hatred, you are not free. If you live in ignorance, you are not free. If you cringe to authority, you are not free. Freedom is priceless, RS, but freedom isn't just a word; it has content and meaning. I agree with you poem there, but there's nothing wrong with the slogan, if it's interpreted as its intended, not as a plaque on a car. And if you conclude that freedom is priceless, the slogan signifying the same only reiterates the point. But, the more important factor here, as you so rightfully pointed out is that freedom isn't just a word and thus should not be taken for granted by either side of the political spectrum here in the USA. The left spends inordinate time attacking Bush, when the actual enemy of the freedom and the country is islamofascism. And when this political agenda is higher in priority than the defense of freedom - that's when that very freedom you're describing is a... RS, well said. Thanks. RS We obviously have very profound differences on the nature of freedom. If you say so What? Canada isn't on the big spenders list??? |
