Let's just say I prefer the term spiritual when describing myself. It's not a stretch to think any finite mind could create a doctrine or dogma to suit an agenda.

This confirms what I long suspected. The inability to never question or being discouraged from querying by cult/religious leaders must bred a narrow mind. When my god is superior to yours, what chance has diversity. Our present existence as the superior species, owes more to our accommodating diversity than anything. Yet our leaders expect conformity in order to rule us.

If your god is that all men (and women, if you must) are created equal that loving your neighbour is much easier.

Looks like the religious have a lot more praying to do to attain par with the thinkers.

Studies equating a direct proportional relationship between religiosity and intolerance go back to 1967 (G.W. Allport & J.M. Ross, "Personal Religious Orientation and Prejudice", Journal of personality and Social Psychology (5:432). This study found that exclusionary practices were stronger in areas where higher numbers of people self-identified as churchgoers.

redwillow, what you said was an opinion. If you think it's obvious, where are your citations?

I just went to the site where this was clipped from to see who did the research and found that it was conducted by Wade Rowatt and colleagues from Baylor University (Baylor Religion Survey 2007) and that had surveyed 1500 people nationwide in the U.S.A.
Upon further reading of the article and links therein, I read that the Survey had been pretty lax (some might say biased) in it's research methods. A book was published -"What Americans really believe"by the Baylor Study.
