righthand says:
In Germany, Austria and Switzerland girls continue to be pressured into defining themselves based on the role of the "good mother." In contrast, society views women who are successful in their careers with suspicion.

That also explains the relatively low number of women in leadership positions in these countries, according to Henning Sass of Aachen's university clinic. 65% of students are female in the first years of medical studies, while at the upper ranks of the medical profession, only 5% of the professors, chief and senior physicians are women.

But this freedom only exists in theory

It angers me that stereotypng still exists. Children of either sex should be encouraged to do and be what they want. Yes there are differences between sexes that we can't see, but there is no reason to discourage them from what they want. They might have to try harder but hard work never killed anyone. An example would be my granddaughter. She's six but has expressed an interest in being a pilot or an astronaut. Her step-dad (called that to avoid a long rant) says to her, well how about working in a bank. You can give people their money. I tell her forget that. Get an education and you can be whatever you want. She's a smart girl.
