While it is fine to look at the need to develop clean, efficient power for production it worries me that a lot of the less obvious calls upon our environment go largely unsung. For example in manufacturing say, a car, how many gallons of water, solvents, chemicals, paints are used; or how many tonnes of plastic, wood products etc are used as well? I feel that just as refrigeration and air conditioning now tends to be star rated on its efficiency with regard to energy use I think there is a case for us to consider more than the obvious in manufacturing; especially when we see the awakening of China as a giant in the World of consumer products. I am well aware that China is instrumental in som... Sustainable fusion reactions have been 10 years away since I first read about them in grade school. Theoretically they're possible (heck, the sun gives us a natural example of their potential every day) but I just don't know if this will come in time. Even as a "limitless" source of energy, fusion is still going to generate grid-based electricty, and will not be a direct replacement for fossil fuels. |
