The one laptop per child initiative may be one of the most powerful of our age. Instead of handing out aid in the form of food or drugs, we're talking about handing an entire generation of children a tool from which they can learn and use to better themselves and their communities.

I don't believe that simply handing out computers will make everything better, but there's certainly some powerful concepts behind this. With google, you can find the answer to nearly any question, and these kids will have that at their fingertips.

Combine that with community and regional wikis, where people can self-organize and create how-to's for nearly everything pertinent to their daily survival, It seems like an incredible tool.

These guys are doing super great and now that they have started selling their laptops to public that was such a smart idea and doing Buy One Give One giving - literally. Many businesses cannot afford to do literal 'Buy One Give One' transaction-based giving so instead they can do this through the Buy1GIVE1 organisation. At www.Buy1-Give1Free.com any business can set up doing Buy1GIVE1 for any product or service anywhere in the world - it's amazing and simple. They started recently and have over 550 projects online now you can support starting from just 1c per transaction. So for example now a coffee shop could provide clean drinking water to a child for a day from the sale os a cup of coffee...
