Most of county Cork, the biggest county, is very fertile but West Cork is as rough as it gets in Ireland. Painters, artists, writers, intellectual rights and such attract NO tax in Ireland. NONE. West Cork is now less than half Irish as it has attracted huge numbers of foreign artists to this area of beauty. All have gained by their enriching of the already rich traditions of this previously backwards area.

Centuries ago, Ireland was famed as the 'Land of Saints and Scholars'. The Saints part is gone forever but the chances on the Scholars are not too bad. Ha ha.
