If someone holds conservative, right wing beliefs, I've got not problem with them. I might even find myself agreeing with them sometimes.

On the other hand, right wing politics are what really get under my skin. And when it comes to Bush, it's pretty much 100% pure politics.

So what's the difference? Well beliefs are ideas - principles you think are right, and that you are willing to stand up for.

Politics is using other people's beliefs to get what you want. Bush doesn't believe in being a "fiscal conservative!" He just talks about that so that right wing voters will support him. He wants to be fiscally conservative on public schools and health care and other areas that don't directly benefit him or his friends, but when it comes to something he wants, belief takes a back seat to unadulterated greed.

Why do conservatives feel they have to defend him? Why deny reality to defend something that is against your values?

Bush has dragged the entire GOP into deluded solipsism

That's exactly what ticks me off!

People say: "Oh, I'm a fiscal conservative, except for when it comes to defense..."

Guess what? Then you're not a fiscal conservative!

If you increase spending while cutting taxes, then you are not fiscally conservative, no matter what it is that you are spending the money on!

Honestly, Conservatives aren't any more fiscally responsible than Liberals. In fact, the idea of deficit spending has been embraced most emphatically by conservative politicians, from Hamilton straight up to G.W.Bush.

When conservatives say they want "fiscal responsibility" what they really mean is they don't want to give money to poor people, and they want to save their money for...

I think you got it now: Bush and the warmongering Republicans are "not fiscal conservatives." That's just a charade, a lie to help them get elected, just like pretending to be compassionate and holy.

As also stated, it's code for "We care about bankers and corporations," more than poor people.

Your initial comment, ouyangwulong, is terrific. I agree 100%. The problem however is not one sided. It is perpetuated by the culture in Amercia where we allow both sides to intentionally divide America for political leverage.
As we briefly discussed on a previous clip regarding cynicism and skepticism, I believe skepticism to be productive and the heart of wisdom. Cynicism is the stance of infallibility and disregard. There is no conversation to be had between cynics and skeptics. Shouldn't we all be skeptics?
As far as I am concerned Bush is a cynic. However, most of his critics are also cynics. Your comment says to me you are not and I am encouraged for our country in that regard.
