jasontromm says: At least not the way we make it here in the U.S., from corn. I know some countries in South America make it from sugar cane and that may be more efficient, but making it from corn isn't green. Well one thing that the article failed to mention is that the Oil companies recieve large gov't subsidies as well. So you could say if oil is so great why do they get subsidies. The only way the US will be weaned off of oil is by South American ethanol (mainly from Brazil) since the process to make it from sugar cane is much more efficient from an energy expended to manufacture standpoint. In my opinion the south american nations are much more friendly to American interests than is the middle east. So it is a good trade if they end up doing it. Popped for Bane's logic. You have to know that ethanol is a brand new energy! Goverments have to give subsidies for this industries to improve their technologies as they did with oil in the past... Comment pop for Bane. You have to know that ethanol is a brand new energy! Goverments have toHogwash! If ethanol was a viable source of energy at this time, the private market would invest heavily WITHOUT subsidies!
