masbury says: Health insurance reform isn't just about poor people Excellent point! Have you seen the Republican scare ads with a suit getting between a patient and doctor? Once again they try to play us. Have any of our legislators turned down their coverage? There already are suits between the patients and the doctors with the current American plan — a suit whose orders are to not spend anything if possible, and if they can't do that, to spend as little as possible. They have no consideration whatsoever about what is medically necessary; they answer to the overpaid execs of the Insurance Agency, and the stockholders. The Repugnant argument is ludicrous to anyone who actually bothers to think about the situation. What they're trying to scare people with is what Americans already have now. It's the mental dysfunction that Americans have that makes them think they have to make a profit off of every bloody thing; even things that should just be a ... Best thing for your insurance company is for you to die suddenly before you get old and ill. It's Big Health Insurance that wants you to die early, not Obama's Healthcare Plan, as the paid-off critics of the plan try to imply. It's actually quite twisted; in trying to scare people away from Healthcare Reform, its critics are citing all the things currently wrong with commercial healthcare, and trying desperately to convince people that those things will happen with single-payer healthcare. It's ballsy, I'll give them that. And it's a tribute to the stupidity of some people that there are still Americans that are buying that bilge as fact. When living in Ireland my son broke his arm. We went to the hospital. Right away he was seen, x-rayed, arm set and put in a cast. Then everybody disappeared. I went looking around for a play to pay a bill. I asked a nurse. She looked at me like I was a barbarian. She, apparently, had No Concept of needing money to fix an injury. I, apparently, had No Concept of it not being a "dog eat dog," world. Great comment! Absolutely right. Healthcare should... must be a public service, not a profit-making venture. Making money off of people's illnesses and injuries is barbaric. |
