Comparing the 1990 numbers which happened before the invasion of Kuwait and the following war and sanctions to those now and blaming this current war is dishonest at best. Oh yes, I am sure infants in Iraq have a very bright future because of our importing democracy. And with their health care system that has been pushed back a hundred years for the most part, I'm sure child care in that country is top of the line. That health care was pushed back in the early 90s as a consequence of Saddam's actions against Kuwait and would have remained behind as long as we allowed him to string us along under sanctions (possibly for the rest of his life and maybe even the lives of his sons). At least the war has given them hope it will turn around (and it is). |
