What are some vocal heterosexuals afraid of when it comes to same-sex marriages? I live in a rural area and I can easily show displays of affection with my husband in public, but I wouldn't dare dream of doing that with a woman unless I wanted to be a victim of a hate crime.

I think homophobia, like racism is widespread and subtle. Gays are productive members of society who deserve the same civil rights as every other contributing member.

Debbyski, Gays do not have the same civil rights? How so? I know a lesbian woman who is married. How are her civil rights violated? There was no law preventing her from getting married. Who said gays were not productive members of society? Are you saying that?
The difference between racism and homophobia is that racism is a real condition of humanity. Homophobia is just an invented term about something that does not exist in order to beat a point of view into submission.
