Spiritualmonkey says: We used chess, not waterboarding, on the Nazis. And honestly, there seem to be people out there who, even if they believed a cookie and a pat on the head worked, wouldn't support it. Because you "showing weakness" is bad. Being seen as strong is more important that actual results. It's also buying into the racist meme that "Those people only respect violence". Beware of all those in whom the urge to punish is strong. -Goethe "And honestly, there seem to be people out there who, even if they believed a cookie and a pat on the head worked, wouldn't support it." Not me. Whatever works. Obviously, try this first, appeal to their ego or desire for companionship vs being left alone etc., but clearly this doesn't work in all cases. If not and they have timely high level operational information that could prevent an attack... bring in the water. If not and they have timely high level operational information that could prevent an attack... bring in the water.A) Former CIA agent Bob Baer, who as a field operative has been on both sides of this sort of interrogation says that the "ticking time-bomb" scenario is a myth, on top of the fact that torture doesn't work. B) Even if torture did produce useful intelligence (which it doesn't), So what? That doesn't matter. Why stop @ wat... I know there are clear examples to the contrary, but in Islam it is required that prisoners be treated with dignity, be kept comfortable and fed and watered. This was a nice clip showing what that sort of treatment can accomplish. I just wish everyone else would follow suit. jmatts78, I don't know, that may be true for prisoner's who also are Muslim, but I don't think cutting the heads off of reporters and targeting and slaughtering civilians to be dignified treatment. I don't advocate doing the same things to them or taking revenge, but if other methods are not working and we can get information without creating excessive pain, permanent physical or emotional scars as the law has allowed than it is a moral imperative that we do it to save lives if (and only if) there is an imminent threat. There are other CIA agents besides Bob Baer who say otherwise. He was not involved in these interrogations and he may have had other assignments in the past where this wouldn't have applied. so forget army torture give them the cookie monster! COOOKIEE !!! billpar, I did say that there are examples to the contrary. Obviously there are people in any walk of life that don't follow what they're own laws tell them. Osama bin Laden's bodyguard, Abu Jandal, was a prime candidate for waterboarding, according to Dick Cheney's manual of interrogation techniques. But, according to a Time magazine report, former FBI interrogator Ali Soufan gave him cookies instead. It seems that Abu Jandal is a diabetic, and he gave up valuable information about al Qaeda, including the identities of seven of the 9/11 terrorists, after being given sugar-free cookies. But what about the "ticking time-bomb scenario?" We only have minutes to stop the hypothetical ticking time-bomb, as seen in movies and TV shows like "24". In this case, let's say we don't have access to baked goods. Recent reports indicate that interrogators used...
