einbar says: "So, rather than a mysterious force welling up from within, Solomon views emotions as choices for which we have to take responsibility. Emotions are, in fact, strategies" The pic: Alex Grey - Life & Death - 7 faces - optical illusion Excellent clip, GREAT image. Emotions are, for Solomon, equally judgments and reflective of values. The idea of emotions being 'passions' (of which we are passive victims) is challenged by a philosophy which locates emotions in the whole of our identity. To some extent, we elicit emotions as a result of who we are. For example, emotions of anger, aggression, jealousy are more likely in an angry, aggressive, jealous individual. Have control of our emotions? Haha! Anyone who's ever been on the receiving end of my PMS knows the answer to that question. Good clip - want more! Soon The more time I spend sitting in zen meditation, the more I realize that although I can't control my emotions, they don't need to control me. @Lexica true and all self control takes effort. |
