Just because we in the west view Christianity's history of using the sword to convert the heathen as ancient and long forgotten doesn't mean other parts of the world look at it that way.

That's the "This applies to EVERYBODY doing ANYTHING within this jurisdiction" set of orders, and this was listed in number 1. That says to me that the Army felt that it was a priority.

The soldiers may think their religion is the neatest, best thing ever and will do people a lot of good, maybe even save their eternal souls from the fires of Hell & damnation.

Doesn't matter. It's against orders. And the Army tends to take a dim view of soldiers who knowingly disobey orders.

What the question becomes is "Do these soldiers think their religious calling trumps the Chain of Command?"

But there are vocal strains within the American Evangelical community who do think that way, who do whip up their followers on talk radio using that kind of talk.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to wonder, what kind of church back home paid for those Bibles? What kind of preacher did they listen to? Do they read the Left Behind series? I think it's perfectly reasonable to wonder, what kind of church back home paid for those Bibles? What kind of preacher did they listen to? Do they read the Left Behind series? Do they listen to Ann "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity" Coulter?

If you're willing to go into a STRONGLY Muslim country, in violation of your General Orders, and try to convert people to the worship of your particular sky-god when you know doing so is a capital offense in that country...

Then yeah, I too gotta wonder just how far you're willing to go on your Crusade.
