mcsmithblack says: One woman takes a stand. For years, Ann Minch of Red Bluff, Calif., has carried a balance of several thousand dollars on her Bank of America credit cardMy God....why didn't she just pay the bloody thing off??? Perhaps not quite enough cash...? Might be hard to believe, but some of us don't have a few thousand lying around or we wouldn't be in debt to begin with. I am totally outraged of course that a person who paid their bill on time would be subjected to an increase such as the one this woman was. My point is that carrying a balance of "thousands" for YEARS is totally irresponsible. You're still a little wet behind the ears aren't you antara? There's lots of ways it can happen. Anytime one's circumstances change for the worse and one is unable to recover quickly (or at all), a perfect setup for being eternally in debt is created. It happens quite often, even to sensible and intelligent people. This is one of the primary reasons that debtors' prison was disallowed in the U.S., You're still a little wet behind the ears aren't you antara?Oh, I'm sorry, is carrying a massive debt for years a sign of maturity in your world chestnut? Thankfully in mine it is not. @ Mcsmithblack: I am totally in agreement with you in that things can happen and push a person into debt without it being their fault as such, but I still think that that attitude of " charge it" without having the funds to pay off the principle is a very damaging one. Like I said, I admire this woman's spirit in rebeling against unfair interest rates, but never in my wildest dreams would I want to have a debt like that carried over for years and years. Just makes no sense at all to me. ... |
