And lose all our sources of oil in the process.

Lol, I mean Iran Saudi Arabia and Iraq. We might get more oil from Canada (I'm not so sure we get much from Mexico..), but they're certainly major sources. And do you think that if we isolate ourselves from those countries we wouldn't isolate ourselves from Mexico, and even Venezuela (another major supploer) as well? Honestly America is more dependent on other countries than most Americans realize, we don't even make our own clothing anymore. If we stopped trade relations with China, for example, just about everything from food to electronics to clothing would come to a screeching halt.

And don't forget about the fact that most oil companies are foreign owned (in fact the only American owned oil company I can think of is Exxon Mobil), and that at this very moment (due to the fall of the dollar) the majority of American buisnesses are being bought out by foreigners (like the largest U.S. brewery for instance).

1). There is only one (major) American owned oil company (that I can think of). 2). America does not have enough crude oil to support it's energy needs 3). Even though America has some of the largest deposits of shale oil, the technology to commercially produce it is still in development and highly experimental (and only one company, Shell, is pursuing the technology). 4). Even if we could commercially produce shale oil, it probably still wouldn't be enough to support our energy needs. 5). Oil is not the only resource America depends on other countries for.

I agree we need more refineries, and we at least need to build more infastructure to produce our own oil, we are still dependent on for...

American companies? Thats a laugh. Their multinationals with no national loyalties. If you think their working for you, the got you fooled. You also forget that oil is a global market resource. All the oil gets pooled into this great speculative market, regardless of who the end users are.

Exactly lol, I keep trying to tell Americans this, but a lot of them are just ignorant as to how the market even functions.

They pay taxes here Rat, that should be all you care about.

righthand
Do they pay taxes there, too? Why would they pay again in the States if they've paid already abroad? Does that make sense to you, Sillysam?

This is all top secret, Sillysam, so keep your voice down , low. Just whisper, C e l t i c__ t i g e r, 3 time, as you touch your toes with your nose. No, it's true many top American companies pay little to low taxes at home. Did they not tell you, Sillysam?

Americans (U.S.) are not in the Middle East because they depend on their oil. It's because they want to control world resources and not letting anyone rise above them (China, Russia, Iran, Europe, etc.) It's because they want to control the world. But they can't. The others are not fools.
