Very sad, Dedication to a teaching career is a very honorable life and I'm sure she will be missed Nooooooooooooooooo! As a retired teacher, I've known many retired teacher of between 35 & 45 years teaching. When I was just starting out, I knew several teachers that retired after 40 years teaching, that did not live 12 months after retiring. It was shocking to a young teacher in my 20's to think that it appeared that was their whole life, it was what kept them young. I resolved then to make sure I had other interests and constantly learning new things. But as I'm now 64, I've seen this phenomena repeated countless times over the years, living after retirement from teaching for less than 18 months. I've been retired over 10 years. I still remember my very first teacher. She taught me in a one room (grades 1-6) country school. She was brought out of retirement to teach because the regular teacher was unable to start the year. Interestingly, she was my father-in-law's teacher when he started school. She was a wonderful patient lady. |
