I have been a white, evangelical pastor for 21 years, and I have never met someone with Hagee's nutjob views. Go get him, I do! But please don't suggest that I'm on his side, or that he is in any way typical of evangelicals. Young evangelicals, responding to recent exit polls, overwhelmingly say their number 1 voting issue is poverty. Hagee is a dying breed. The "Christian" right is nearly a third smaller than it was eight years ago.

As you note, the Christian right does seem to be changing. I just mentioned to a friend the other day that the latest incarnation of televangelist (Rick Warren, Joel Osteen) have dropped the dogma and hellfire. Even my parents have left a dogmatic fundamentalist church for a more laid-back church home. And my mom voted, for the first time ever, for a Democrat when she voted for Obama in her state primary.
Again, I never meant to suggest that all evangelicals are wingnuts.
