President Bush mounted his surge this past summer (2007) and had the talking heads tell congress and the people of the United States this fall (2007) that it (the surge) was working and that our troops are making progress in lessening the violence in some parts of Iraq. However, newscasters who have been in country for nearly five years now tell a different tale. These newscasters say that the people in some segregated communities who adhere to strict regulations about when to come and go are somewhat safer because we keep troops surrounding those neighborhoods night and day, but this is not freedom. This is strict occupation!

December 2007 saw an uptick in violence in Iraq with more and more car bombs killing more innocent people. The Bush Administration continues to parlay this into progress. When congress asks specific things about progress (or tapes of tortured detainees) being made in Iraq or Afghanistan the Bush Administration states that they cannot tell us more because it may infringe upon our national security. The Bush Administration has hidden behind Executive Privilege and national security for far too long. Is this progress? Is this protecting our national security?
The Bush Administration sidesteps the torture issue and as far as progress is concerned Bush’s answer is to increase the size of the Army...

Another portion of those funds allocated in the 2008 budget will allow visas for 25,000 Iraqi persons who wish to flee to America for political asylum. More than 4 million Iraqi people have fled or been displaced since Bush began his war with Iraq. These people deserve any help we can provide them.
Some money is set aside for Bush’s European Missile Defense Program. To date no countries are willing to harbor Bush’s missiles or join in his program.

I urge you to please do your part. Please write or call your local and state representatives/congressional persons telling them how they let the people who voted them into office down. Tell them that a vote to refund this war without a timetable f...
