n2sooners says: I don't care who you are, that last line was funny. How accurate and cutting Only thing I can't figure out is what the McCain campaign has against people who blog in their mother's basement between games of D&D. Indeed. Be careful. They are a protected class now. Many of them haven't changed underwear in weeks. This is no laughing matter. WOW woulda been funnier... that episode of South Park was da bomb.... Thanks for clipping, N2. You have made me think of a pardox. John McCain has got a lot against the editors of the NYT, obviously. But comparing them to blogger D&D players is hilariously out of touch. It just goes to show how backwards that McCain camp thinks now. D&D is so out-dated, yet they couldn't find a better reference with WoW and bloggers because the majority of their party would have been so lost. Only I cannot stop thinking how lost the USofA will be if that McCain party wins. How is comparing them to a D&D player out of touch? I actually think that is the perfect touch. After all, he is talking about people, who in this day and age, are still making their living selling a product that is itself outdated. These aren't people on the front line playing games like AoC. Heck, they aren't even the band wagon types who would be playing WoW. D&D is the most appropriate comparison and the only way the quote could have been any better is if he had said ranting into the ether on their Tandy (or Commodore). Now, that isn't to say that they aren't out of touch with the latest online games. Frankly, I would be worried about a full time politician that was totally up to date w... He is trying to insult them by comparing them to an essentially non-existent group. Not much of an insult in that case. No doubt it's funny that he makes stabs at their weakened business, but comparing them to blogger is far off the mark because it is the bloggers that are causing the decline in traditional media. And besides, both sides of politics have got cadres of "blogger[s] in their mother's basement ranting into the ether". So, in my view, their attempt at insulting the NYT fails and makes me laugh at the McCain camp. He is trying to insult them by comparing them to an essentially non-existent group. So, you think D&D is dead? And you call McCain out of touch? No, I did not say D&D is dead. I said that the sub-group which they referenced is essentially non-existent, especially compared to editors who share the view of those at NYT. Can you name a blogger who lives with his/her mother and plays D&D between posts? I sure cannot, so if that makes me out-of-touch, then I guess the shoe fits. I have played my fair share of online games, and I know that there are plenty of players who either still lived with their parents or had moved back home for one reason or another that did indeed play RPGs and rant online about many things (including politics). They may or may not have had blogs, but he never specifically mentioned bloggers, just ranters. And gamers, especially those playing RPGs, are notorious for their ranting abilities.
