ayame28 says: Francis Bacon. Another excellent quote: "We would be 1,500 years ahead if it hadn't been for the church dragging science back by its coattails and burning our best minds at the stake." - Catherine Fahringer You're right. That is a good one! Christianity leaves to man reason, philosophy, natural awareness, laws, reputation, and everything that can serve to conduct him to virtue; but materialism (ie: atheism) destroys all these, and erects itself into a tyranny over the understandings of men (see: communist manifesto and French Constitution): hence Christianity never disturbs the government for to do so would be against the call of Christianity, but renders man more positive and hopeful, since he sees value of the present life. -- I will be happy to explain anything you like about Christianity, philosophy, and theology to the best of my ability, which I assure you is apparently far beyond your capabilities. Dear Wilhelm, You're a troll. I assure you that I've read quite a bit on the subject of Christianity. I didn't abandon Christianity as a whim. I know what I'm doing and after years of research and wanting to find the truth about life, I've decided there is no god or gods. There is no supernatural. These days, I'm not tied to some superstition about a magical Sky Daddy. When you try to turn the quote around and insert Christianity instead of atheism, you have a ridiculous saying. Christianity is constantly disturbing our government today. It fosters ignorance and belief in foolish ideas. It does not teach morality. It does not offer any real hope. It only offers falsehoods. While communi... Apparently you do not know what materialism means, nor do you even understand the concepts you are attempting to communicate. I doubt seriously you know anything about Christianity, Islam, Judaism or any other religion for that matter. My point in mirroring the quote was simply to illustrate the failures of correspondence and that it is basically an appeal to ignorance. A thoughtful person would notice that instantly. Actually, I do know what I'm talking about as far as religion goes--and materialism too. As an ontological theory of existence, I find it the most in line with reality as I perceive it. It's not as satisfying as the other theories (specifically dualism which seems to posit a soul or at least a separate, non material entity of the mind) but it seems the most logical conclusion. Our minds are a physical manifestation of our bodies. Everything is physical, even our emotions. Wish it wasn't so. It would be nice to die and hang out for all eternity in some cool place with beer volcanoes and the like (my idea of paradise) or to know that the mind lives on or the soul, but I don't think that's the ... to trust faith over reason is really rather stupid.the only true thing you said. Too bad you demonstrate this so well. Intellect is such an elusive dream for some. But me saying that won't convince you since you're a troll and a jerk. Ha ha. You're a funny guy. Thanks for the laugh. you're welcomed. Happy to please. |
