With the exception of Nevada (because of its "quickie divorce" policy), a similar trend shows up when you substitute divorce rates for teen pregnancy.

At the same time, liberal hell-state Massachusetts has one of the lowest teen pregnancy and the lowest divorce rates in the country. Makes you wonder who the real "family values" people are.

How very strange! Notice, too, that they are almost all former slave states/Confederate states. I'd guess that the religion is an expression of the cultural context, rather than vice versa.

But I'm certainly not sure what it is about the context that makes it so.

For that matter, they're also mostly McCain states!

Seems to me that there would also be a strong correlation with educational achievement and with poverty rates. But it is astonishing how many times the high pregnancy rates simply stop at state borders.

Why would that be?

Whoops - I guess we can't say that - since the map doesn't show pregnancy rates, but Baptist rates.
