I wish more atheists were like this woman and shared her views. My parents took me to church for many years. It's been so long since I've been to church as an adult, but it's not because of anything the church had done. The folks that liken Christians to idiots like Fred Phelps are no better than the people who express animosity towards the gay community. If those people would take the opportunity to get to know a Christian or a gay person, you come to find out that most of them are really nice people. I don't know what the hell kind of "church" Fred Phelps is running. It sounds like an insane asylum, but the church I was involved in was about caring, forgiveness, friendships, toleran... For me religion in and of itself is fine. If people believe x, y or z - what's it to me? Indeed many good things have been done by religious people in the name of their religion. I know and am friends with many believers from a variety of faiths. My problem comes when believers feel the need to interfere with my (or anyone else's) life. I don't want to be converted/saved, I don't want their particular fairy-tale to dictate who I can marry, I don't want my son to go to war for their religion, I don't want their anti-scientism taught in our children's schools etc, etc. But hey, religions great! Great clip and comments. Roll the dice. When you die you will find out if you were right or not. That's right, jay8h. It's all theory until we cross over. |
