Background Just the facts...

The average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.72, this is $.61 higher than a year ago.

The U.S. Congress has acted, but in the wrong direction. Last week, the Senate voted narrowly against reversing a moratorium on oil-shale development.

Federal officials and industry experts estimate that up to 1.8 trillion barrels of oil is trapped in the region's oil shale, or three times the proven reserves of Saudi Arabia.

Laws and policies that restrict access to America’s abundant energy drive up the price of fuel and electricity. They cause widespread layoffs and leave workers and families struggling to survive, as the cost of everything they eat, drive, wear and do spirals higher.

Its time for America to wake up. We are spending billions of dollars our money our tax money on the war in Irag, not to mention the number of american casualties. I say we stop the war now, we also need to start drilling here for oil. The elderly, and low income who live on fixed incomes are starving, doing without but hey this is america right land of the free.
BullShit. We leave our own do without to help a foreign country, were the only place I know who blows up a country and pays them to rebuild it. We need Hillary Clinton in office or newt Gingrich not barack obama who can't defend us. won't fight for us I am a damn mad American and if the rest of you are mad as hell then we nee...

I am sorry I have one more comment to make. ITs rather a short true story. My mother is 65 years old living on a fixed income. She takes care of my parapalegic brother who has decubits sores on his buttocks from being in a wheel chair. The goverment isn't funding any medical supplies for her so she must pay for the bandages, tape, and antiseptic as well as the antibiotics. They don't have the money because of the economy, but here is the sad part she goes to the dollar store and buys womens kotex pads to cover the sores, does without food, and weighs 90 pounds a loss of about 65 pounds in a year. Whats wrong with America What, He travels to Morgantown wvva 2 x a month for treatment whi...

The billions of tax dollars wasted are from the freeloaders in this country who are on "disability". I am an ER nurse, and I see 26 year old men receiving social security benefits for some medical problem for which they do not take any medicines, or even have a primary care physician from whom they receive treatments for the alleged disability. The other huge tax waste is Medicaid. The premise of the program is good, but it is abused unmercifully. Those on Medicaid have no financial incentive to see their primary care physicians for non-emergent health issues. They call an ambulance when they are consipated, are treated in the ER, and then they are "entitled" to a cab voucher for a ride...

Waste beyond imagination!
That's really disgusting! I live in Oregon and I don't think
that kind of abuse is happening here.

We let the EPA and Environmentlist run this country. The big oil companys leave because of cost in doing busness, fines, where to drill,or put new refiniers. The President stated we could use closed military bases, which can't be used until they are cleaned up.I remember in Michigan around 20 years ago it was said you could't drill, because it would hurt elk herd.Drilling was done anyway, after everthing was put back there was more elk than before.

Think I am making this up? As the American Land Rights Association recently noted, “Ask timber workers in the West whose industry was all but eliminated by critical habitat designation for the spotted owl—whose numbers were later found to be declining, not because of logging, but due to invasion of its habitat by the more aggressive barred owl.”

“Ask those who used to farm in Oregon’s Klamath Valley who lost their irrigation water to protect fish that were later found to not be harmed by using the water for irrigation.”

“Ask the ranchers in Idaho’s Owyhee County who finally threw in the towel after ...

Have you noticed that in the past two years since the dems took over both houses of congress, all but rendering President Bush a lame duck everything has deterioated. Economy slipping, food prices going sky high because of the ill fated fuel from soy beans, corn etc. Gas prices now over $4.00 up more than $1.50. Will someone please explain what good are heathy wild animals and a fine enviroment if the citizens of this country are starving or freezing to death? jerry rowe

Congress needs to take immediate action to authorize drilling for oil on Americas known oil and oil sand resources before our economy is further destroyed.

Further, I know that thinking Americans are concerned that Congress has allowed this oil problem to occur.

This is only one area of a number that congress has let their constituents down.

We are looking at congress with amazement, at all the unnecessary activities that our Representatives are spending the TAX PAYERS money on while things like the oil disaster has been allowed to happen.

I guarantee you, that even the less vocal constituents. are becoming anoyed with CONGRESS on the lack of productivity, poor solutions, lack ...

We need not only to drill in all promising US areas, we need also to move on nuclear energy and other energy possibilities.

Until the oil companies build more refineries and show a true competive posture, the Federal Trade Commission and others should constantly investigate what has become a de facto monopoly. The oil companies and other interests have owned Washington for too long.

Wake up America! Dems have vetoed Repub bills to drill for oil & gas for 15 yrs,and they aren't going to pass it now. They want us to suffer in the hope we'll blame everyone but them, and that it will somehow lead to a win in Nov. at which time they will save us with more socialistic gov. takeovers than can be imagined.Hypocrits say it pollutes to drill in the U.S.,but some how it's ok to drill on the other side of the planet where pollution is of no concern. Vote these obstructionists out.Our survival is the issue now. ...

Our survival is the issue now.
All the socialist in Congress are concerned with is their
own survival, while they're creating their own giant "carbon footprints" and getting annual automatic pay increases at taxpayers' expense! They may get a "crude awakening" hopefully.

we will not get a comprehensive energy policy for the better of the nation before we have a term limit on both houses so senators and congressmen will vote whats good for the country and not solely consider their re-election. the current rhetoric is typical of this - we need major surgery to find a long term solution to our many ills not band aid resolutions.

Until the US get new members in the house, there will never be any worthwhile decisions made for the American people. As others, I too am in favor of setting limits for the representatives to hold office. Some have been there too long as is. Our government in Washington does not consider the people that put them there, only the people all over the world, trying to keep a good image. We need to do everything possible to help ourselves instead of the whole world. I am in favor of drilling along our shores so that we no longer have to depend on other countries for the oil we need. The law passed 20 years ago should be done away with so that we can use the technology of this great country to better the AMERICAN PEOPLE
