I think it is an election ploy. The so-called terrorists have migrated over from Afghanistan to Pakistan long time ago, they've been there throughout this presidency but they are directly being attacked by US in recent weeks. There was also no sign of non-cooperation from Pakistan.

Just some speculations.

You are right Napster, this goverment doesn't have the balls to take on Pakistan, cause they have nukes and a half decent army. Iran still looks like a viable option, from now too 2018 at least.
