arifsali says: I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have Respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we live in the United States of America. Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life. (Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.) 'Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant.... You want to know what I make? I MAKE A DIFFERENCE. What do you make Mr. CEO?' His jaw dropped, he went silent. If only the system wasn't so corrupt and there were tons of teachers like this one! Most definitely not very many teachers like the one described. Add in the corrupt/broken school system and you just aren't going to find teachers like this who spend most of their time preparing for tests rather than actually teaching. Teachers are people too. Teachers are stereotyped and often are scrutinized under those idealologies. Few can live ip to them and one mistake can shatter their image. Parents stand on their soapboxes and declare disgust about teaching methods while their children run amok. Remember, a childs most important and most effective teacher is the parents and if there are problems with the child there are problems with the parenting. Take a long hard look at what you teach your kids before you blame the schools. Schools are supposed to be teaching a child the "Common Knowledge of society so everyone is able to have the basic education of public knowledge. Parents are supposed to teach values and ev... Well said skwirl. Too many parents consider a school a tax paid baby sitter. I disagree, somewhat, on the basic education expectations. America needs to better educate its children so that they can be more competitive to the rest of the world. The times of simply understanding the 3 R's is long over. We do need more teachers who can think outside the box to engage kids into wanting to learn and get rid of those dinosaur teachers that expect the kids to learn by rote and repetition. America is ranking far down the list of a successful educational system. Education isn't the only thing slipping away. "Remember, a childs most important and most effective teacher is the parents and if there are problems with the child there are problems with the parenting. Take a long hard look at what you teach your kids before you blame the schools. " (wish I knew how to make this appear in that little box) anyway.... Yes, I agree with you, however, some state curricula in many places directly teach children to keep secrets from, lie to and disobey their parents. No- it isn't the teacher's fault. The system is screwy . Teachers are expected to do too much, I know. If there is a class of 30 kids with one teacher, that one teacher can only work one on one with any given child for 2 minutes out of every h... rvnurse, are you talking about quote boxes? Just use the brackets to enclose the word "quote" and then at the end enclose "/quote" So if I wanted to quote "This is in quote" I would use this format (replace the '{ }' with the '[ ]') {quote} This is in quote {/quote} Hope that helps. Oh, you can also click on "Text Editor" located just to the right of "Add a Comment" in the comment box. That will allow you to highlight text and just click the " key to make a quote. You can also get fancy and use quote=name so that your quote reflects who said it : Oortcloud said: |
