Very interesting blog, Masbury. I really did enjoy it, even though I fall into the Calvinist camp. This statement of yours sounds profound and on the surface appealing. However, after noodling it, seems to be quite inappropriate as it pertains to sola fide, grace, and salvation.

What does this mean?

Thanks!
I just finished preaching through the gospel of Luke. In chapter after chapter, Jesus interacts with culturally disfavored people, or tells stories with excluded, non-prestigious people as the heroes.
Some of the Pharisees hate him for it; even John the Baptist seems puzzled by it. For all have assumed that Messiah will preach separation from such people.
Indeed, Pharisees conclude that anyone with his associations and apparent disregard for law could not possibly be God-sent.
He dialogues with Samaritan women, prostitutes, Syro-Phoenicians, pagans of Gadara - all shocking to them. Jesus is especially incensed when they decline aid to someone on a religious basis (eg., not healin...

I guess the part that is most strange to me is the "rejecting exclusivism part". Did not Jesus himself preach exclusivism when he asserted:

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me - john 14:6
The Father who sent me draws him - John 6:44

As to you leaving the call to me on sola fide, grace, and salvation, that's fine. I am not being contentious but what am I to do with Romans? Should we pick and choose certain things from the Bible that fit our comfort zone or should we build and apply a consistent theology with all scripture?

It is merely my intent to express the activity of Jesus as portrayed by
Scripture, in faith that his priorities...

Thanks. Perhaps 'grace' is the overwhelming urge to 'get down and dirty'?

Still, this..
It is merely my intent to express the activity of Jesus as portrayed by
Scripture, in faith that his priorities are the Father's.
... is remarkably profound to me. Sorry to be so stunned by such a simple and beautiful approach.

I cannot, in any part of me, reject or limit the weight of everything in scripture, but this has me reeling.

I get lost in my thirst for "knowing" God, that I concentrate on study, The Bible, Philosophy, doctrine and Theology that a simple point like that is PUNCH between the eyes.

I've only just begun reading the gnostic bible, for curiosities sake if for no other reason, and I find that in th gospel of Mary (which is only 5 pages long), Mary is getting this very deep, very insightful wisdom from Jesus that you never hear the Apostles preach about or even mention in any part of acts or St. Paul's letters to anyone.
I wish more of her gospel had survived so I could better understand this wisdom in a fuller context, instead of all the assumption that one must make lacking more background.
Very cool running across a topic like this you guys, thanks

Willhelm, I really struggle with Calvinism and election. Do you have any recommended reading in this area? I cannot understand the mind of God, and I have to rest on that when I struggle with things like this.

I find Masbury's idea of "rejecting exclusivism" so comforting.

Yes!, Read Chosen by God, by RC Sproul.

A good Website is Desiring God.

or Monergism.com.

or John Calvin himself.

I struggled too, Mousie. However, the more I learn it is remarkabley biblical and biblically unifying.
